Some fashion changes are distinct and occur quickly, while others are subtle and transition more slowly. From the end of one decade to the start of the next, fashions overlap, some to a greater or lesser extent than others. In fashion, decade demarcations are basically imprecise, nevertheless, for convenience, the Early Nineteenth Century fashions in this overview are organized by decades: 1800-1830, and 1830 to 1850. The outwear styles within this section extend to 1860.
